Cuddle up with Sondrae Bennett!

In this busy time of year I’m all about the short story.  However, for me short stories can be iffy at best because they are usually lacking in depth of both the characters and story.  This is definitely not the case with Sondrae Bennett.  Her stories have all the depth and richness of books more than twice the length and draw the reader into a well-developed world with strong characters and plot.

Covert Desires is the most recent installment in the Alpine Woods Shifter series.   But don’t let that sway you.  This can definitely be read without the rest of the series but if you are a fan of the series it does a great job continuing the story line. If you missed it please scroll back to yesterday to read our Guest Feature with Ms Bennett!

Danny, the only single male remaining in his wolf pack, is asked to step in to distract the new woman in town from finding out the truth about the existence of the shifter packs in the area.  Knowing that this mysterious woman is an undercover FBI agent Danny knows that he has his work cut out for him but that challenge quickly becomes insurmountable when he meets her and realizes right away that she is his mate. 

Amber is still trying to recover from her last assignment that went horribly wrong and is very wary of the man who shows up at her door with a plate of cookies and a welcoming smile. Her gut tells her he’s not all that he seems. Then again, neither is she. And since she was sent here to root out the secrets of the town and its people, she might as well accept his invitation to dinner. But when things start to heat up between them, will her heart lead her toward her job, or toward the man trying to win it?

Neither of them counted on the attraction that blazes between them at first sight, or the undeniable pull toward each other that only grows stronger with time. Danny’s wolf knows the truth. Amber is his mate, and he’ll do anything to keep her safe and happy.  However, when her presence in town and her home become threatened by shifters determined to scare her out of town Danny is forced to act and further put more pressure on the already blurry line between truth and fiction.  But how can he protect her without reveling who he is?  And can he reveal everything he is and everything he’s been keeping from her without losing her forever?  Will desire be enough once all their secrets are revealed?

For me, what I loved most about this story is how much time and effort Danny puts into really getting to know Amber and win her trust.  This is a wonderful story of two people really getting to know each other on a very real level.  This was a fun easy read with two strong characters that both know what they want in a mate and put forth the effort to work through all of their obstacles and embrace their magical connection.  This is the perfect book to grab a cup of hot chocolate and curl up in front of the fire for a perfect winter afternoon!
