It's About Time

Hi my name is Tyra, and I am an Olympaholic but I am ok with that, not looking for a 12 step program(even though I am sure my family thinks I should be committed). This summers games have been a roller coaster of emotions so far, from the highs of gold and near perfection of Kim Rhode in skeet shooting to the lows of the men's gymnastic team and we are only 4 days into competition!!! I don't know that I can survive 12 more days of this. I was already an emotional wreck coming into the games because on one Mr. TJ Klune!

That's right people I finally got around to reading Bear, Otter, and the Kid. This is one of those books that I have been hearing about since it came out almost a year ago but just kept getting pushed back on the TBR pile. Well with GRL coming up in October I am trying to read as many authors as I can that are on the attending list and so that bumped it back into the top slot on the pile. Well someone needs to slap me upside the head for not reading it sooner. OMG this book was sooo good!!! I wasn't even half way done when I started emailing everyone telling them they had to get this book and read it immediately.

Bear, Otter, and the Kid, TJ Klune, Dreamspinner Press
Three years ago, Bear McKenna’s mother took off for parts unknown with her new boyfriend, leaving Bear to raise his six-year-old brother Tyson, aka the Kid. Somehow they’ve muddled through, but since he’s totally devoted to the Kid, Bear isn’t actually doing much living—with a few exceptions, he’s retreated from the world, and he’s mostly okay with that. Until Otter comes home.
Otter is Bear’s best friend’s older brother, and as they’ve done for their whole lives, Bear and Otter crash and collide in ways neither expect. This time, though, there’s nowhere to run from the depth of emotion between them. Bear still believes his place is as the Kid’s guardian, but he can’t help thinking there could be something more for him in the world... something or someone.

BOATK goes on my all time favorite books list. It's so very real and visceral it grabbed my heart from the beginning and never let go. If you are looking for something light and fun to read this isn't the book but if you are looking for something with real feelings and emotions and the true meaning of family then this is absolutely one that you should read. Now don't get me wrong it's not all heavy emotions all the time because there is some REALLY bad poetry in it but you will definitely run the gamut of emotions with this book.

I have read books before with a similar premise but I don't know of one that made the feelings so real. When the Kid asks Bear to take him to the bathtub because he is scared and he needs to feel safe my heart broke. When Bears friends rallied around him to give him the support that he needed I smiled and cheered. When Otter left thinking he was doing the right thing I yelled. Every moment of self doubt that Bear had when he was feeling overwhelmed and like he was drowning I wanted to wrap my arms around him and hold tight.

The secondary characters are strong and add layers and history to the story. And while yes it is a love story and about two people trying to come together it was so much more. This was a story about all the different types of relationships in our lives and how they help define who we are.

Thank you Mr. Klune for writing a beautiful story about love and relationships and family!

BOOK TOUR: Aphrodite Calling

Aphrodite Calling
by Jennifer Lynne

A woman with a secret past

Gina Deveraux is forced to confront her painful past when she attends a high school reunion. Born with male genitalia, she spent her childhood and teen years living as a boy, and has only now returned in an effort to put the past behind her so she can begin to live life without the continuing fear of loneliness and rejection.

A god of sexual desire on the edge of burnout

Himeros is one of the erotes, an aspect of Eros, and as such it is his duty to answer the call of sexual desire whenever a human needs him. But he has been living among mortals too long and his interest has waned. When he decides to accept one last call he finds a woman who is unique. A woman who encapsulates the whole human experience in her body, and her soul. Has he finally found the one with whom even a god of desire could find fulfillment?

After all, forever is such a long time to be alone.

(Author's note: A more unlikely couple would probably be hard to find, but the alluring power of Aphrodite works in the most mysterious ways *G*)

EXCERPT
She felt the zipper on the back of her dress begin to wend its way down her spine, and her breath caught when the warmth of a fingertip followed in its wake, urging the edges of her dress to slither away with greater ease until the material pooled at her hips. Then his lips were against her skin, branding her with heat, just at that dip where her neck melted into shoulder.
Gina let out a shuddering breath, one she hadn't even known she was holding, and arched her head to one side to allow him better access. So hard to think straight, when his hands were spanning her waist like that, caressing the edge of her ribs. When his lips and tongue were doing the most incredible things up the line of her neck to nuzzle in such an intimate manner at her earlobe.
"Himeros," she whispered, as her knees threatened to buckle at the heat and the heaviness between her legs. And it felt different, this time, from what she remembered of past encounters. It wasn't just centered in her groin, that familiar feeling of an impending explosion. It was her pussy that was hot and heavy, and aching to be stroked, yes, but she also felt the ache throughout her whole body, like a stream of spreading warmth. She hadn't realized it could feel this...damn...good!
She reached back to find his hips and pull him closer in against her, wanting to share this newfound sensation of desire.
"I do desire you," he growled in her ear. "So much."
"I know," she said, emboldened by these new feelings, wiggling her ass against the rock-hard core of him. "I can feel how much you want it. Me."
As she turned in his arms, she caught the momentary grin that lit his features before his mouth swept down to claim hers. And if she'd thought the sensations before were unique, they were as nothing to the onslaught that swept through her when his lips and tongue forced their way in to brand her with his essence. The power behind his kiss was so intense she couldn't even respond, other than to let out a moan that he swallowed then continued on.
Demanding more.
Dominating.

The Pirate Prince, Temple Hogan

The Pirate Prince
Pirate’s Booty Series – Book Five
Temple Hogan

From the first moment Prince Rajak laid eyes on Azara, the Persian Princess he wanted her. But his journey to Persian was to find a bride for his brother not himself. However, upon returning from his trip he finds his father murdered by his younger brother, Mohan, who has also claimed the fabulously wealthy Peacock Throne of India, for himself even though it belongs to Rajak since he is the eldest son. Rajak is forced to flee his home to escape Mohan’s supporters and turn into a pirate to survive. Seeking revenge, he steals back the wealth that once would have belonged to him—gems, gold and silver and even captures the beautiful Azara, whom he claims as his own.

This story is not your typical pirate story. Since both of the main characters are royalty they maintain all the pomp and circumstance of their upbringing regardless of their new environment and circumstances. There is also a strong influence throughout the book of the Arab culture they come from. When Azara is captured her group of servants are also captured. The women can not show themselves freely and where berkas at all times. It is considered improper for Azara to not have her chaperone with her at all times. There is a strong underlying level of mistrust between the characters due to all the underlying cultural issues. Azara is concerned that her life will be forfeit if she is ever returned to the intended brother and is no longer virginal and if he lets her live she will only be a third wife to him and not much more then part of his harem. She has watched her mother be an unimportant lesser wife to her dad and therefore struggles to believe that women have worth and can be loved. Rajak is clear on his desire for revenge and this causes further concern in Azara that she is merely a pawn in his game. When they due come together it is passionate but fraught with mistrust. It is a hard fought battle for them both to realize that all the riches in the world are worth nothing compared to trust and love that they can only find in each other.

Breaking Cover, An Ultimate Indulgence

A Handcuffs and Lace Story that is by far the best in the series!
Home for six months after an undercover assignment at BDSM club Testing Leather, Homicide detective Brian Hurley can't shake the memories, or the feelings he developed, for undercover partner Griffin McManus.
Griffin's having his own problems in the aftermath of the job, and he shows up on Brian's doorstep, hoping one last night together will allow him to put it all behind him.
Will reconnecting as themselves help them let go, or will they find everything they need in each other?

What a way to start my down time. I have been so crazy busy at work that I haven’t had any time to read. I finally got caught up and thought a short story was in order (a little indulgence for me!) so I reached for something from Sean Michael.  You always know that it’s going to be a good read and I really didn’t want to be disappointed.  After writing over 20 books in a series you would think it would get old so I had my reservations.  I have to say that the first couple didn’t really make me jump up and down.  They were good – don’t get me wrong.  His latest is great though and so I say to you get the darn book and READ IT. You won’t be disappointed either.

What made Breaking Cover so special was the constant changing from the present to flashbacks from the case. I was amazed at the depth of this short story and the development of the two characters. As some of you know – I read just about anything but really, really enjoy BDSM. Brian’s character is a typical top (love them all) but you really would not get Griffin if it was not for the flashbacks. The way their relationship starts and then builds is what makes the plot great.

The only disappointment was that it was over too quick. I wish this was a full (500+ pages) novel of Brian and Griffin deep undercover at the Leather Club. I found myself asking a million questions - most of them surrounding their time undercover and not just their relationship but also the case.

OH but if I had one wish, it would be a similar story line with the suspense of a good case at a BDSM club. I would pay the bug money and buy it in a minute.
RATING: With no reservation, Breaking Cover is 5 chocolate-dipped strawberries.
On to my next story and I am sure back in the near future will be another pick from Sean’s huge array of stories. If anyone has a suggestion then PLEASE send it my way.

Flame Throwing Friday

What a super busy Friday I have ahead of me. Lots of work stuff to do and a busy weekend too. I've been swamped at work and football and soccer have both started back up. Did I mention it's my kids birthday party this weekend also? Top all it all off with trying to get organized to leave for vacation next week and I have a hot mess as Jenn and Tyra would say or is that " Kim you're a hot mess"?  Either way..... I took time to read this.....
Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all--but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him - a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.
As always I loved the book. Everything she writes makes me a very happy girl. In fact I finished it in three days. I loved Cat and Bones making an appearance. Gotta feel the love going on between Vlad and Bones. Bones upped his game by showing Leila how to block Vlad. So many uses for 80's songs! Who knew? I will admit that I was a little shocked at the pairing of Vlad and Leila. I always pictured Vlad with a vampire chick from his past showing back up in his life. Leila was totally unexpected. I look forward to the next book.

I give this book 5 chocolate dipped strawberries and a stylish glove for Leila to cover her hand. If you have to wear it might as well rock it.
PEACE

BOOK TOUR: Fournicopia

Fournicopia
Delta Heat, Book 2
by Deliliah Devlin

BLURB
Forget the sugar. Send her the spice.

Gus Taggert knows a setup when he sees one. The doughnut shop his police officer buddies have sent him to, Cornucopia, is too frilly. Too pink. Then the woman behind the counter serves up a mini-lesson in submission that leaves him ready and willing to obey her order to see her tonight at La Forge BDSM club.

The large, burly cop is exactly the kind of alpha guy that newly minted Domme Aislinn Darby has been dying to tie up and spank. Yet after she puts him through his paces, she finds herself eager to let him take control—something she’s never before enjoyed with a man.

Determined to find out once and for all if she has what it takes to control a scene, she orders him up for one more go. Only this time, she intends to ensure he remembers who’s in charge. She’s even willing to offer a little bribe: accept her dictates, and his reward is her—any way he wants her.

Except when it’s time for payback, it comes with several twists she never saw coming.

Product Warnings: When a male sub decides to turn the tables on his pretty Domme, he calls for backup from his best friends. Contains scenes with m/m/f, m/f/m, f/f, spanking, restraints, and an orgy of pleasure no woman can resist.

REVIEW
Hot and spicy, Fournicopia takes readers on a sensuous ride as a new Domme meets her match in a willingly submissive man. Aislinn and Gus fit together though one couldn't necessarily neatly pidgeon-hole them into a standard role within the lifestyle. Both contradictions - Gus being a very large Police Officer who is also submissive and Aislinn a petite pastry chef who is also a Domme - they connect immediately. Through a progression of descriptively vivid sexual encounters, their relationship develops past what may have been first intended by either of them. The story reads quickly and despite it's tight time frame, it is believable as the author uses their actions to move Aislinn and Gus through the emotional landscape of finding that one perfect person.

RATING: 4 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries.  This book was given to us by the author. Many thanks.

EXCERPT
“There any cameras in this room?”
She gave a curt nod toward a far corner.
He didn’t look toward it. He didn’t give a damn who watched. But did she? “Mistress…Ash,” he pleaded, every muscle in his body alert and ready to act.
She shook her head. Closed her eyes. Then she glanced to the corner and signaled with a wave of her hand beneath her chin for their watchers to cut the feed.
“We alone?” he ground out.
“Completely,” she whispered, her eyes wide.
Was she feeling as desperate as he was? Gus swooped toward her, picked her up by the waist and laid her on the bench. “No more slap and tickle.”
She cupped the corners of his shoulders then glided her hands across his chest. “I’m still in charge,” she said, but without any force behind the words, like she was reassuring herself.
“Yes. You can decide whether you want me or not. But choose quick.”
She wrinkled her nose. “You’re a terrible sub.”
One side of his mouth curled up. “Not really into rules.”
“Funny, I don’t seem to mind a bit that you’re not.”
“Punish me for the lapse…later.”
Her mouth curved. “My pleasure.”
He bent and took her mouth, rubbing away the smile. Her hands framed his face. Fingers cupped his ears then bit into his lobes to hold him back.
He didn’t like the uncertainty causing her eyes to darken. “Need control?”
“I do.”
“I’ll give it. Always. Tell me what you want.”
Her chest rose and fell so swiftly, her breaths came in tiny gasps. “Undress me.”

Burn Baby Burn!

Well my baby boy turns 13 this week. That means I now have two teenagers in the house, one who is getting ready to drive and one who is sprouting hair in new and different places. Yes it's an exciting time in the Berger household. Thank God I have my make-believe, pretend worlds I can go to to escape the madness that is hormonal teenagers.

This months book club selection was the new Jeaniene Frost book, Once Burned. Now I am pretty sure all of us in the club have read the Cat and Bones series and fell in love with the world that Ms. Frost created, so we were all excited to read Vlad's book. While this is set in the Night Huntress world and we do get a cameo from not only Cat and Bones but Kira and Mencheres as well this is the first in a new spin off series.

Once Burned, Jeaniene Frost, Avon
Night Prince #1
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

So this is one of those books that I have been waiting for. Vlad is one of those bigger than life characters who was just screaming for his own book. He knew he was better than secondary character status and damn it he deserved more than just a one off, by God he needed  his own series! Well I for one am happy that he got his wish...er demand.

We also knew his heroine was going to have to be able to hold her own or he would walk all over her. Well Leila has been through hell and survived. I liked her immediately and think that she is a great addition the women that live in this world. And how can you not love someone who knows as many bad 80's songs as she does.

Szilagyi makes a great villain. Ruthless and completely irredeemable. And his henchmen were just as despicable. Rend so got what was coming to him.

I was so not surprised that this book ended with no resolution because lets face it this is Jeaniene Frost we are talking about and she is one of the best at the cliff hangers. The only thing that I hope happens in the next book is that we get the story from both Vlad and Leila's point of views. I really want to know what goes on in Vlad's head!

Once Burned, Jeaniene Frost

This weeks featured book is Jeaniene Frost’s, Once Burned: A Night Prince Novel

As a child Leila dreamed of being a gymnast. That is until she was involved in a tragic accident involving a downed power line. As her body recovered she gained terrifying powers that let her channel electricity, learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch and track their location. Unable to touch anything for fear of shorting out even the simplest devise she is doomed to a life of solitude as a circus performer...until vampires learn about her and kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with her abilities to track down their biggest enemy. But it turns out that their biggest enemy has wicked powers of his own and is immediately aware that she is tracking him. She is forced to pick sides and chooses to use her link to send out a telepathic distress call to her captors enemy - the world's most infamous vampire...

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all--but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies think they have found a new weapon against him - a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. But when Vlad rescues Leila the tables turn and now with her help he is on the hunt to try to find out who his illusive enemy is. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

We first met Vlad in the Cat and Bones series. I have to say I have been very anxious for this book to come out. Having said that I’m very torn about this book. I think I was hoping for something more in the lines of Spades and Manchere’s books that are also spin off’s of the Cat and Bones Series. This book does not have the closure that the two other spin off’s do. This will obviously be another series. Having said that it is a good and bad thing. Good because – yeah lot’s more Vlad to come. Bad because this is a big cliff hanger. I don’t want to give more away but if you are looking for Vlad to get his happily ever after and have everything tied up in a nice pretty bow I would wait for book two and read them back to back. Otherwise this was a great book and excellent start to the series. Obviously since the book is all about Vlad we learn a great deal more about what makes him tick. Cat and Bones make a very brief appearance but this is really more of a separate series from the original. All in all a great book!

RELEASE BLITZ: A Matter of Lust

Trask is a lust demon on the hunt for a playmate, a human exceptional enough to sate some of his ravenous hunger. When he finds Rena, he knows that she is the one he must have. He makes it his business to seduce her.
Rena is immediately drawn to Trask. She could easily fall for the dangerously sexy bad boy who makes her scream every time he makes her come, but the problem with bad boys is that they’re actually bad. They break girls’ hearts and hers has been broken too many times already. One more crack might shatter it forever.Trask claims Rena for his own, but she needs more than just sizzling sex. She wants to trust him, but can they ever share anything more than lust?

Chapter One
The deep, melodic trance music vibrated through Trask’s body as he prowled the crowded dance floor. He was hungry, so very, very hungry, and the time had come for him to find a willing partner for the night. Any one of the mortals undulating around him would have sufficed, but so far none of them appealed to him. The need gnawed at his insides, but he waited, searching for the one. Over his long years among the humans, he’d learned that it always paid to be a little bit discriminating. It made the feast so much more gratifying.
He sidestepped around a young woman, his shoulder accidentally brushing against hers. He felt her body temperature rise as he passed, the lust that had been simmering just below the surface swelling to a fevered pitch within her. She grabbed her companion and kissed him ferociously, shamelessly rubbing herself against him. She wasn’t the only one affected by his presence either. Potent waves of raw sexual energy radiated from him, infecting the air around him, threatening to turn the club into one giant orgy. Trask smiled at the thought.
He cruised the dance floor, reveling in the exquisite thrill of his hunt. Human lust was such a decadent treat, so very different from the desperate lust of the damned in hell, and it filled this ordinarily dull world with brilliant light and added depth to the darkest shadows. He could feel it oozing from the dancers, the men and the women, sweating and panting, touching and grinding, their bodies writhing in time with the music. Tension built in his groin and he welcomed the pure, straining delight.
He stopped suddenly, the prickling at the base of his spine alerting him to the presence of another demon nearby. Not a lust demon like himself, but something similar. Pride maybe, or perhaps wrath? He couldn’t quite get a fix on it. He waited, wondering if it was going to make contact. Often other demons haunting and hunting the human realm wanted to meet, to plot and plan and scheme, to “raise some hell” or whatever, but he got the impression that it was occupied with something else entirely. Which was just fine with him. He’d never been the social sort.
The music changed and a thumping bass beat poured out of the speakers. Trask shook off the psychic residue of the other and worked his way toward the bar. He ordered a bourbon on the rocks and leaned back, happily absorbing the intoxicating atmosphere while scanning the crowd for his potential playmate.
His gaze fell upon a woman on the edge of the dance floor in a short, black dress that hugged every curve of her luscious body. Her violently dyed red hair was piled high on her head and sexy tendrils escaped to frame her heart-shaped face. There was a hint of rosy flush on her smooth, round cheeks and the way her hips swayed to the music made his cock stir.
Trask placed his drink aside and unconsciously ran his tongue over his teeth as he glided toward her. She was tall, probably close to six feet in her heels, but he still had to lean down to whisper close to her ear. “Hello,” he purred, breathing in her clean scent of shampoo and roses and woman.
She turned slowly toward him, her gaze roaming over his face, his body, and he got the distinct impression that she was mentally undressing him. He certainly hoped she was. She obviously liked what she saw because a smile blossomed on her glossy, pink lips. “Hi.”
The instant, piercing sexual tension between them made his blood surge. He reached out with a fine strand of psychic energy and lightly dipped into her primal core. Trask hissed as desire coiled in his groin. She was sweet ambrosia, a succulent feast just waiting to happen and his cock ached to sink inside her, to make her come again and again while he fed on all that glorious lust. “You are very beautiful,” he said, savoring the tiny taste of her fire.
“Uh-huh,” she said, mischief and humor making her eyes sparkle. “Tell me something I don’t know.”
Trask laughed. He liked this woman. “I think I might be in love with you,” he said, beginning the game. It was a line that had worked many times before—the humans always seemed enchanted and amused by the concept, but it was a hollow sentiment, something meant to elicit a grin and nothing more. But as the words left his mouth, they felt different this time, almost as if they had…weight.
“Are you sure it’s love you feel?” she asked, a smile dancing along the corners of her mouth. Her eyes flicked down to his crotch. “Or something else entirely?”
“Now I know I’m in love,” he replied, the lust coursing through his veins. She was perfect. Fun. Bold. Smoking hot. And she was going to be his. All night long. He reached out and traced the curve of her cheek with his index finger. Her skin was flawless, warm and silky. “What’s your name?”
She paused and an odd, little smile formed on her lips. “Does it matter?”
Normally it wouldn’t matter—in fact, there was no reason why it should matter, but for some reason it did matter. It mattered a lot. “Yes.”
Her smile changed, softened, and Trask was awestruck by just how simply beautiful she was. “Rena. My name is Rena.”
“Rena.” He liked the way it rolled off his tongue.
“And what about you?” she asked, leaning closer to him. He looked straight down into her very ample cleavage and took his time enjoying that magnificent view. His fingers itched to caress that soft skin, to feel the weight of her full, round breasts in his hands. “Do you have a name? Or should I just call you the sexy Darkman of my dreams?”
“I do like the sound of that.” He wondered if his presence was affecting her, making her more daring than she’d normally be or if this was just her nature. He had the power to inspire humans to say and do outrageous things simply by standing beside them. His gaze touched on her flamboyant red hair and he thought—hoped—that it was her and not a consequence of his influence. “But Trask is so much shorter and to the point.”
“Trask,” she said, and he had to admit, he liked the way his name sounded on her lips. He couldn’t wait to hear her scream it. Her eyes trailed over him, her gaze a provocative caress that sent hot, tingling ripples down his spine. “So, now that you’ve declared your love, what happens next?”
“Oh, you know, the usual.” He caught hold of a loose strand of her hair and twined it around his fingers. The tension between them rocketed up a few notches and he inhaled the essence of her arousal, breathing it deep into his body, relishing the flavor of her. “A whirlwind romance, storybook marriage, honeymoon in Paris.”
“Followed swiftly by a quickie divorce in Mexico, right?”
Her voice was tinged with unmistakable venom and the bitterness sliced through the hazy, plush cloud of their lust. Startled by the mental slap in the face, Trask dropped his hand back to his side. Darkness deepened around him as anger settled in. He did not like this turn of events at all. “What makes you think I’d do anything quick with you?”
“I see,” she said, and he watched her features soften as her mood shifted. Humans were so extraordinarily complex. He didn’t think he’d ever understand their ability to feel so much, so quickly and thoroughly, even when those emotions were completely contradictory. Demons were defined by their desires, embodiments of the thing they hungered after. There was never a reason for a demon to feel anything more than his driving need. Everything else just got in the way of the goal.
Her bitterness ebbed away, gone almost as quickly as it had come, and she favored him with a dazzling, flirtatious smile. “You’re a slow-and-steady kind of guy then?”
“Oh yes,” he said, returning her grin. “And I always win in the end.”
She laughed, a lovely, musical sound that tugged at his insides. She leaned into him, a whisper of space between them and he could feel the heat of her body on his skin. “Hmm,” she said, and bit down on her lower lip. Her fingers flitted over his collarbone. “I do like confidence.”
He caught her hand and brought it to his lips. “Then you’re definitely going to like me.”

GUEST POST: Kathleen Pickering

BLURB
Going back to go forward . . .
Daniel Del Rio never could say no to Maria Santiago. So although their relationship is over, when she asks him to sail her to the Bahamas, he reluctantly agrees. She's convinced that revisiting the scene of her accident will restore her memory. If it does, then maybe he can finaly let go and move on with his life.

But moving on seems impossible when being in such close quarters reminds him of what they once had. Could their proximity be having the same effect on her? As he falls for Maria, Daniel realizes he has to confess his role in the accident...even if that confession could cost him a second chance with her.

EXCERPT

Daniel gently pulled Maria to the helm. He planted both her hands on the steering wheel, then stepped away.

Maria stood with her profile to him. She pushed her glasses onto the bridge of her nose in a nervous gesture.

He placed a hand over hers and moved the wheel, adjusting their heading. Then he moved closer, his chest pressing against her left arm. Her warm, sweet scent mixed with coconut sunscreen invaded his senses and his next thought flew out of his head.

Wanting to be closer, he moved behind her, wrapping his arms around her body. Together they moved the wheel. The heat from her skin blended with his, weaving some intoxicating thread around them. Did she feel the wind funneling through the sails and over their bodies?

Yeah, she did.

He indulged the luxury of closing his eyes to revel in her body heat and perfume. This moment was all too familiar...and Maria didn’t even know.

GUEST POST

When All Else Fails, Return to Where It Began!

Sexy, sultry Maria Santiago is a celebrated South Florida artist who has become a recluse suffering from amnesia due to a boating accident that killed her twin and her mother. She is also unaware that Daniel Murphy del Rio, the yacht captain of her father's sailboat is not only her lover, but her fiance who has been waiting out a torturous year hoping Maria's memory would return. Instead, she ignores him at best, thinking he is a gold-digging employee shadowing her ailing father instead of leading a life of his own.

What Maria does not know is that Daniel is a celebrated world-cup sailboat racer. He is also the son of her father's best friend. Daniel halted his career and followed doctor's orders not to confuse Maria with facts she can not remember. Including her engagement to Daniel. Meanwhile, Daniel suffers with a secret of his own. The death of Maria's twin and her mother happened on his watch, while he was at the helm of a speed boat in the Abacos. Daniel believes that if Maria finally learns the truth, she will hate him and ultimately destroy any chance they have of recovering their love.

Daniel reluctantly agrees to take her for two reasons: One, he cannot refuse anything Maria asks of him. And, two, only a madman would walk away from the opportunity to have three weeks alone with the seductive Latina who not only stole his heart, but rocks his body like no woman he has ever known. Maria would not be suffering amnesia and nightmares if it wasn't for the mistake he made. It's his destiny to be ground zero when Maria recovers her memory and can only pray she has mercy on his heart and soul.

Where It Began is the first of four Harlequin Super Romances I'm slotted to write through 2014. They're all different but celebrate gutsy, sexy characters with strong wills and able bodies to get them through life's challenges. Love in real life. There's nothing finer.

Flinging Rats Friday

It's Friday and it's getting closer to vacation for me by the day! It's been a quiet week and I have no complaints. Next week will be crazy and I have my kids birthdays to plan and get ready to head to my happy place. THE BEACH! I'll be packing a book to take along. Hmmmm.... what to take???? If you're wondering the same thing check this one out. As always Angie rocks it!

Gentleman Prefer Voodoo by Angie Fox
Voodoo priestess Amie Baptiste usually leaves the spells for the customers until one night, in her loneliness, she gives in to temptation. Amie weaves a spell to call "the perfect man for her." ....But she should have been more specific since her ideal man apparently died in 1811.
Dante Montengro has been haunting St. Louis Cemetery Number One, waiting for his true love to call him back to life and end his wandering ways. Emerging from the cemetery: Hot, human and very much alive Dante's first stop is Amie's voodoo shop.
When the drop-dead sexy zombie appears at Amie's door she has only one thing in mind and that's to put him back into the ground. That is, unless he can convince her to try a few other things...

What a fantastic quickie as you know I like to call them. Angie Fox writes the best stuff. I loved the Accidental Demon Slayer series (you know how I feel about Dimitri). I knew I was going to love this story the moment I started reading it. When a story starts out in a voodoo store with pink walls you know it's going to be good. I was also quite fond of her little Kongamato friend Isoke (the title of this blog is dedicated to him).  I was amazed that Amie held out so long to conjure a love spell for herself. Clearly she had watched her mom fail at love her whole life. I would have thought she would have wanted to get it right earlier in her life but that just goes to show good things come to those that wait or to those that have friends that throw rats at you lol (don't even think about it! You know who you are!).

I give this book 4 chocolate dipped strawberries and some DECON.
PEACE

A Night of Southern Comfort... Better Than Fried Chicken

A Night of Southern Comfort kicks off hot and never gives readers a chance to cool off. I read this book as fast as I could (no kids, sorry, mommy cannot cook dinner, I am reading!) – each scene leading so fluidly into the next creating a well-paced story. It is steamy, full of suspense and intrigue and characters readers will love. And I cannot believe it is a DEBUT NOVEL!

Set right in my backyard here in rural Virginia, the characters are realistic, believable and interesting. The secondary characters are a good addition, incorporating that small-town feel.

Jackson was a sinfully delicious southern gentleman who just happens to also be ex-FBI. All he wants is his job back at the FBI – recognizing he messed up and willing to do anything for another chance. When the governor calls and wants Jackson to guard his daughter, promising this will lead to his job being re-instated, Jackson cannot refuse. But when he meets the governor’s daughter and realizes it’s the woman with whom he had a one night stand, he’s shocked… but determined.

Jackson and Michaela have remarkable chemistry both in their one night stand and when they meet again. Watching them fight their attraction provides for great dialogue and fun scenes. When they finally give in, sigh, readers will be delighted and in need of a fan (often). This is a steamy romance full of suspense that truly drove the plot, with believable characters and delicious sex.  And just wait for the twist at the end! I didn’t predict it coming but I do predict readers will love this book.

FAVORITE LINE: “I wasn´t looking for a man at all. That changed when I saw you. I picked you because I couldn´t not pick you.”

RATING: 5 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries… mm… mm… delicious.

Many thanks to Entangled Publishing for providing this book for my review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Robin Covington writes sizzling, contemporary romances with a sassy splash of humor.
Like most girls raised in the rural South, Robin is descended from a long line of storytellers.  If her Granny or Papa got started on a tale you’d do best to pull up a chair, grab a glass of sweet iced tea, and settle in for the ride.  The stories were always larger than life, heart-wrenching and funny – just like life – best savored slowly and with relish.
The discovery of books was a natural extension of her love of a good story and once she got her hands on her first Bertrice Small novel – she was hooked.  Beautiful, spunky heroines and sexy, smoldering heroes – yes, please!  She soon found that she was weaving her own tales of love and laughter in her head and then scribbling them down when she just couldn’t keep them inside any longer.
On her fortieth birthday, Robin decided that having a mid-life crisis and finding a boy-toy were far too tacky, so she delved a little deeper into the “bucket list” and pulled out the long-shelved dream of becoming an author. So, she pulled out the laptop, grabbed a glass of iced tea and started putting her stories down on paper.
Now, her life is busy with being the lucky wife of her own sexy, smoldering hero, blessed mother to her two amazing children, and her full-time job as an attorney.  By night, she continues the Southern tradition of telling stories that weave together all of what makes life worth living – love and laughter.  Happily ever after, guaranteed.

Rodeo Rebel: A Standout in the Genre

BOOK BLURB
When widower and land baron Cole Reardon acquired the Turner Grain Corporation, he didn't know the company sponsored a bull rider. He refuses to support thrill-seekers dumb enough to get on the back of a crazed animal. He’s not willing to risk his fortune and livelihood when he has his daughter's well-being to consider. Not even when the bull rider is the sexiest woman he's ever seen.
Bull rider Florentine McDougal plans to turn pro after the season championship, fulfilling her lifelong dream of succeeding in a man’s world. That is, until Cole Reardon shows up and threatens to break his sponsorship contract with her. Now everything she’s worked for is less than eight seconds away from being destroyed.

Cole distracts Florentine with his sexy mouth and unreasonable demands, and he's not going to compromise his integrity. But she's not going to let him loose until she has pro status. And neither will come away from this dust-up unscathed.

BOOK REVIEW

What a refreshing take on the western romance! Kayn’s book features Florentine, a female bull rider who is committed to being the best and serving as an example to young girls. She exemplifies a truly confident woman who does not need a man to complete herself. This is a brave change from the more traditional gender roles in romances and makes Rodeo Rebel stand out in the genre as unique.

The story of Florentine and Cole, and Sarah, is written from the heart.  While the book missed the mark with no strong hero (let’s face it – he’s was a bit of a softy), readers will still fall in love with this couple regardless. Kayn still manages to pull off a sweet manly hero surrounded by two great women – the heroine who has spunk and the smarts to back it and his daughter who is cute as a button. The relationship between the hero and his daughter will warm your heart but it’s the romance that will set readers on fire.

Rodeo Rebel will pull at reader’s heartstrings… together with great secondary characters that infuse the story with warmth, the characters become like family. I plan to read this entire series and encourage readers who love themselves a cowboy to read the series too.

RATING: 5 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries
This book was given to us by Entangled Publishing... many thanks.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

1. What inspired you to write this book?
Rodeo Rebel is part of the Sisters of McDougal series, and since there are 5 sisters in the McDougal family they each get their own book. The idea started originally that I wanted to write a western story but instead of centered around cowboys, I wanted cowgirls. Of course, being a romance book there are also cowboys! I also wanted to show how a family goes through losing someone bigger than life, and having to go on living and finding love.

2. What do you like most about the book?
I love the strength found in Florentine. I think it’s important for woman to know they can be strong and tough, but also embrace their tender side. That’s hard for a female bull rider in a man’s sport, and we get to see how she grows and comes into her own.

3. Is there a message your book conveys?
You can’t fight love! I’m a sucker for happily ever after. I love the journey to finding the love of your life. Sometimes it’s simple, and sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns and fight for it. However you go about it, it’s totally worth the ride!

4. Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a full time writer who attempts to balance kids, husband, animals, and whatever else anyone throws at me. So, depending on the day, I might spend all day writing or steal ten minutes here and there. When I do start writing, I sit and let it flow out of me without a plan in sight. Once I get the first three chapters done, I start plotting in my head. By the time I’m halfway done, I plot each scene and make sure they are progressing in the right direction. One thing I like to do is write fast. I hate breaks or missing a day. I love the routine of writing to a schedule. It keeps me sane.

5. What tips do you have for aspiring authors?
Don’t give up, and write what you know. There’s comfort in knowing how your characters live and what’s involved in their everyday living. Use your experience to keep your interest in the story up, and write from the heart.

6. What are a few of your favorite authors?
I’m a huge Nora Roberts fan. I also love Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Diana Palmer, Jeannie Watt and Linda Lael Miller.

7. What is your guilty indulgence?
Soft caramel squares! Some people might say boots too, but I don’t feel guilty about that one.

AUTHOR CONTEST ALERT!!
Thank you so much for having me here today! Remember, if Rodeo Rebel reaches the top 100 by August 8th, I’m giving away a pair of cowgirl boots and a cowgirl hat. No purchase necessary! All the details are here!
