Werewolves Be Damned by Stacey Kennedy

Werewolves Be Damned by Stacey Kennedy
Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.

Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.

But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

REVIEW

I really enjoyed this new supernatural world and characters that Stacey Kennedy has created in Werewolves Be Damned. There are werewolves, witches, vampires and guardians so whatever your paranormal favorite is you will find in this book.

Following the murder of her human parents Nexi Jones discovers she is part witch and part guardian from the Otherworld. Nexi is determined to find the werewolves that killed her parents and kick some werewolf butt! Knowing she will not stop until she has found the attackers, her father assigns Kyden with her safety and Guardian training…..and does he have a job on his hands.

What is there not to like about Kyden? He is a warrior with a romantic side….and the cherry on top…..he wears a kilt!! This was a great read from start to finish. It is fast paced with lots of action, romance, and full of characters that I hope to learn more about in the next books.

I give this 4 chocolate dipped strawberries.

REVIEW
I loved Nexi. She had spunk for someone new to an unknown world. I loved Kyden. He had alpha written all over his hunky kilted body. I even loved the secondary characters but there was something that kept me from loving the book. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it. I’ll recommend it to others and I’ll definitely be reading the second book.

There was an infusion of light-hearted moments amid battles, humor surrounded by sexy alphas and sweet and tender moments. These are the pieces that really made the book for me because it gave me a connection to the characters.

My major concern was that the story had a bit of stop-and-start factor, which made it a longer read because it lost my interest at times. Still, I enjoyed becoming part of the world the author created. It was magical with unique elements to give the book an edgy quality without seeming like the hundreds of other PNR series on the market.

I read from the ARC. While I waded through many errors, I’m hopeful those of you who read from the published book won’t have to deal with those.

Find me a Guardian Friday

I'm a little early this week which will confuse me the rest of the week so don't be surprised if I post something on Friday too. I must say I have enjoyed this quiet week. Monday wasn't even bad. Looking forward to the weekend and my short work week next week, I plan on spending it in the sun with a good book. This was my pool read this week....

This was a new to me author and I must say I did indeed enjoy this book. It has all the important things...Hot Guardians, strong women, werewolves, vampires and witches. It was good length and moved along at an awesome pace. I sometimes dislike the first book in a series but this is not the case this time. I got all the "new" world information that I needed and I will admit that I had a House of Night flashback. They made a Circle and called forth the elements. So with all that being said grab this book and throw it in your pool/beach bag and get your tan on.

I give this book 3 chocolate dipped strawberries and wardrobe consultant for Nexi. Do you dress as a Guardian or as a witch???

Review:

Nexi is just your average, normal, human, until one night when her world is turned upside down and she finds out she isn't as normal as she thought she was...and she isn't human. Finding out your part guardian, part witch would be difficult for anyone to deal with but throw in a hot guy in a kilt who thinks he is the boss of you and I can totally understand Nexi's attitude.

Nexi's favorite word for Kyden, caveman, could not have been a more perfect description of him. And while she knew it came from a place of love it still, rightly, drove her crazy. But I have to say that Kyden's protective streak was totally hot too. One question though...why the shorts under the kilt???

There is a strong and varied secondary cast that added a lot of depth to the story line and really made the story for me. I want to know more about Haven and the connection that she and Nexi share. I also thought the hierarchy set up for the world was interesting and unique. But I do have to say be careful because Ms. Kennedy likes to rock her inner George R.R. Martin and you just never know who is going to survive and who isn't.

The overall story is strong and I loved the characters but there are a lot of editing issues. I had a hard time staying in the story because of the number of wrong and missing words. I do plan on revisiting the world and hope the next book is a little cleaner.

Stacey Kennedy writes erotic romance like nobody's business - all the juicy-alpha-male-and-flawed-female-who-verbally-spar-and-sensually-war-their-way-into-love a reader can handle!  But honestly, I was surprised to find she wrote paranormal romance as well.  The series, Magic and Mayhem, was an instant hook - who doesn't love the premise of sassy humans entering the world of magical creatures and the wackiness that will inevitably ensue?  Interested?  But wait, there's more!

Werewolves Be Damned brings the reader smack dab into the Otherworld with Nexi's brutal witnessing of her parents murder.  No need to pussyfoot about with backstory, just jump in with two feet.  And it works beautifully.  As self professed first book in a series hater, this proved to be one of those rare gems that has that magical blend of creative storyline, snarky dialogue and perfect pace.  The writing style is bold, casual and quirky at times but the characters grab you from the outset and the reader becomes immersed and invested in the story immediately.

Kayden makes for one delish alpha hero - he knows how to push and when to back off!   Oh, and did I mention the leather kilt he sports as a uniform....shirtless....all the time?  Nexi just plain rocks - yes, she is clueless at first, not really a human but having no idea she's half witch, half Guardian.  She self doubts and struggles with her training, but she ends up amazingly self aware and her learning process shows she is no wilting flower.  I am sure her leather kilt is cool too, but I am still imagining Kayden's.  The secondary characters are every bit as interesting and Kennedy develops enough depth in them that the reader will want every one of their tales as well.  Witches, Werewolves and Vampires...now that's Magic and Mayhem!

There's enough action and intrigue for those who prefer a grittier urban fantasy and plenty of sizzling chemistry in the bedroom/hallways/kitchens, etc for those who lean toward erotic romance.  Throw in fangs, fur and a big sword and you have the base ingredients for this tasty treat!  With a creative take on classic creatures, a solid storyline and great characters and dialogue, Werewolves Be Damned should definitely find a spot on your TBR list if you are a fan of paranormal romance.

EXCERPT:

I’ve found you, fur ball.

Nexi peered from behind the large oak tree and spotted the small log cabin nestled in the thick forest. The porch light cast a warm glow into the night. Fog settled over the lush grass, and the night was dark, eerie.

Stepping away from her hiding place behind the tree, she strode forward and gripped the dagger tightly in her hand. Keeping the silver blade pointed outward, she climbed the cabin’s porch steps, taking each one slowly to avoid detection.

Once she arrived at the front door, she wrapped her hand around the door handle. Rich hunger for revenge burned in her veins and made her intent on one thing: to slaughter the werewolf who escaped the night of her parents’ murder. Not caring what awaited her, she stormed inside, dagger pointed, ready to kill.

The simple cabin had two large brown couches near a wood-burning stove, a kitchenette behind the living room, and a quilt-covered bed resting in the back. And that was it; there were no other rooms to investigate. No secret hiding places she could see. No damned werewolf.

She cursed, shut the front door behind her, then trotted down the steps to return to her hiding spot. On her way across the yard, she glanced at the space to the right of the tree, which looked much like a heat wave, indicating that the portal to the Otherworld remained.

In some places around the world—or the Earthworld, as supernaturals had called it—there were permanent portals to the supernatural realm. This portal had only appeared because Nexi had travelled to this cabin from the Otherworld. Once she passed through the portal again, the gateway would vanish.

Magic had its perks. Quick travel was one of them. Nexi shook her head at how normal all this magical stuff seemed now. Just over a month ago she’d never believed in anything that went bump in the night. Now she knew all those things existed, and in fact, she was one of them.

To her horror, she had learned that her birth mother, Tillie, had been murdered by a power-hungry vampire, Lazarus. All those years ago, her birth father, Drake, had protectively decided to block Nexi’s supernatural abilities. He had planned for her to live and die as a mortal. Now with her return to the Otherworld and the removal of the block on her true identity, there was no going back.

She was no longer plain, human, Nexi Jones.

She was Nexi Jones, part guardian, part witch.

Looking away from the portal and to her hiding spot until the werewolf returned, she hurried her steps. She wasn’t ready to return to the Otherworld yet. Not until she had the werewolf’s head as her wall ornament would she dare go home.

Just as she neared the tree, a woodsy scent that had nothing to do with the forest mixed with the citrusy aroma of aftershave. A blink of an eye later, the dagger she held was now at her throat, a hard body closed in on her back.

“You smelled lovely when you arrived.” The low voice by her ear held a faint English accent. “But I never imagined you’d be so pretty.”

The blade pressed into her skin, not drawing blood, but implying that if the werewolf chose, she’d be destined for the grave. “I’m…”

“Going to explain yourself.” He lowered the dagger, took hold of her arm, and jerked her forward.

In a few short strides, the werewolf tossed her through the threshold of the cabin, and slammed the door behind them. He sauntered to the couch, sat down, and regarded her. “Now then, darlin’.” His olive skin was stunningly flawless, and his chocolate-colored hair was spiked tall. “Why would a pretty lass like yourself plan to attack me?”

“Don’t move.” That charm wouldn’t fool her. “Stay right where you are.”

“My mouth is the only thing moving.” His slanted amber eyes raked over her. “Would you like me to stop talking?”

“No.” She hesitated then added, “Only your mouth can move. Nothing else. Tell me what you know.”

He gave her a long look. “I’d be glad to tell you anything you’d like, love.”

His kind face and soft voice wouldn’t trick her. He was a werewolf. She was certain, which was another oddity.

After the block on her supernatural abilities had been lifted, she could identify a supernatural creature as if knowing the difference between a brunette and a redhead. “Tell me why you killed my family.”

“That’s an interesting accusation.” He cocked his head, studying her with a frown. “But I think the more important question is who are you?”

She lifted her chin. “The lass who’s going to cut off your furry wolf balls.”

The Guardians’ House, located on the north side of the Otherworld’s castle, was quiet tonight. Kyden strode through the wide hallway, passing the large arched windows on his right and the thick mahogany doors on his left leading to the residences of his fellow guardians.

Nearly at the bend in the hallway, a scuffle sounded at his back, followed by a loud squeak. He took a quick look behind him, discovering the Earth Witch, Haven, approaching from the Witches’ House. Behind her, his good friend and guardian, Finn, followed at a brisk walk.

“Thank goodness I found you, Kyden.” Haven gasped as she reached him. Her brown curls bounced off her shoulders, her big blue eyes were wide, and her cheeks were flushed pink. “I’ve messed up. Big time.”

When Finn joined them, he leaned against the stone wall and pursed his lips at Haven. As the thinnest guardian in the Otherworld, Finn could be underestimated. Kyden always thought that was Finn’s advantage. Enemies took him to be weak and by the time they realized they were wrong, they were dead.

Turning to Haven, Kyden noticed how she worried her bottom lip. While she was a sweet witch who had a huge heart, and she was Finn’s potential mate, her naiveté brought trouble often. “What have you done now?”

“You see…” She shifted on her feet, looking everywhere but at him. “I was with Nexi earlier tonight. We were talking about her parents’ murders and…I might have mentioned that Briggs could know something about their deaths.”

He arched an eyebrow. “And I should care about this because?”

“She got mad.” Haven’s eyes widened further. “Like, really, really mad. I didn’t think she’d do anything. But she’s left the Otherworld.”

He didn’t doubt Haven’s assessment of Nexi’s emotions. She and Haven shared a soul-sister bond, a connection only given to a pair of witches by fate, allowing them to sense each other’s strong emotions, which bound them together in a way, he, as a guardian, could never understand. He also knew that Nexi had used their bond as an advantage to get her way with Haven for the last month. “She’s left again?”

Haven nodded. “Nexi’s so tricky and gets me to tell her things.” She hesitated, then added, “Like where Briggs lives.”

Amusement stole his irritation. “Are you suggesting that Nexi has gone to kill Briggs?”

She bit her lip. “I think so.”

“Go home, Haven.” He chuckled, patting her shoulder. “I’ll go get her.”

“Be super-fast. Who knows what she’ll do, or what Briggs will do to her.” With a resigned sigh, she scuttled away.

Finn pushed off from the wall and his lips parted. He shoved a hand through his sandy-blond hair, then he finally muttered, “Nope, I’m done with talking about Nexi running off and Haven’s mistakes.”

Without another word, he followed Haven.

Kyden shook his head, understanding Finn’s frustration. This had become a habit of Nexi’s. He strode forward, carried on through the hallway, and soon he entered the Council’s Foyer. White stone walls surrounded him, stretching into a vaulted ceiling. To his right, four windows with intricate stone carvings decorated the sides, and a warm breeze soared through the room, carrying scents from the gardens outside.

He stopped, glancing to the Council’s Hall arched doorway, considering telling the Otherworld’s leaders, the Council, what Nexi had done again. He decided against it. No doubt they would hear of it from Haven soon enough, and he’d rather get Nexi home before Briggs mauled her.
Settling in front of the portal’s large wooden door, he gripped the wrought iron handle, and stepped over the threshold. He focused on thoughts of Briggs’s home in Cache Valley, Utah, to teleport him into the Earthworld.

The bright light flickered before his closed eyes and the swirling wind from the vortex squeezed his body. Only a split second passed before his boots connected with hard ground, and the rapid wind was replaced by the sweet scent of evergreen trees.

He opened his eyes to a dark night, understanding why supernaturals chose to live in this realm. He even understood why some guardians refused to protect the Otherworld and join the Council’s Guard. Earth was beautiful. But home to him was the Otherworld—maybe because guardians weren’t born from this land; they had originated from the Otherworld. Regardless, he’d always experienced the call to the join the Guard, and he also knew he’d never set down roots in the Earthworld.

Besides, his reasons weren’t only personal: supernaturals in the last few centuries had flourished. During the eighteenth century, the Council had created new laws. Only the Council’s Guard or those in training to join the Guard—including their families—were allowed to stay in the Otherworld. The land simply wasn’t big enough to build enough homes and the castle couldn’t support the size of the rapidly expanding supernatural population.

Earth had the space, then some.

Taking in his surroundings, Kyden noticed no noise came from the cabin in front of him, but the light from the living room indicated Briggs was home. He strode forward and, once at the front door, he knocked.

A moment later, it opened to a frowning Briggs. “’Bout time you showed up.”

Kyden cupped his friend’s shoulder. “Where is she?”

Briggs opened the door wider and Kyden stepped into the cabin, discovering Nexi sitting on the couch near the woodstove. Her arms were folded, leg crossed over her knee, which she bounced with clear irritation, and a familiar scowl he’d seen for weeks now marred her face. “How’d that go for you?”  Her hazel eyes narrowed.

Briggs shut the door behind Kyden, then he pulled a small silver dagger with a bejeweled handle from his back pocket. “She had this with her.”

Kyden took the dagger. “Where’d you get the knife?”

“It’s Haven’s,” she retorted. “I borrowed it.”

He slid the dagger into his scabbard in front of his sword. “You shouldn’t have a weapon until you know how to use it.”

She flicked her long, dirty-blonde hair over her shoulder. “Well, if someone would teach me, then this wouldn’t be a problem, would it?”

Briggs smirked. While Kyden shared in his friend’s amusement over the smart-mouthed woman—and he rather enjoyed that smart mouth—she had become a real problem. Her present behavior was classic Nexi Jones. She might be new to the Otherworld, but her brisk confidence would make most believe she’d never left the magical realm.

Dropping onto the couch across from her, Kyden shifted the sword strapped to his back to rest upon the cushion, when Briggs asked, “Hungry?”

The warm, comforting scent of home cooking drifting through the air reminded Kyden he hadn’t eaten for hours. “Always.”

In the kitchenette behind Nexi’s couch, Briggs grabbed two wooden bowls out of the cupboard. He removed the lid from an old steel pot on the stove, and scooped out what smelled like beef stew.

With bowls in hand, Briggs returned and placed a bowl on the coffee table in front of Nexi and she glared at the dinner. Then Briggs handed Kyden a bowl before he sat next to her, looking at Kyden. “Would you like to tell me what’s going on?” He gestured toward the fuming woman. “And why this little darling wanted to remove my furry balls.”

Kyden chuckled. A threat. Indeed.

He scooped up some beef and potatoes with his spoon. “Nexi and her parents were attacked by a group of werewolves. One managed to get away from us at the scene, and we’ve been hunting him, but the trail is cold.” To Nexi, he firmed his voice. “The Council wanted me to have a civilized conversation with Briggs about it. Not deal with your sorry excuse for an assassination attempt.”

She snorted. “His balls would’ve been an added ingredient to that stew you’re drooling over.” She hesitated, her cheeks flushing. “That is, if I’d known werewolves had increased scenting abilities.”

“Exactly why you shouldn’t have come. You haven’t been taught the ins-and-outs of supernaturals and their talents,” he countered out of sheer frustration. “A werewolf could’ve scented you the minute you arrived. And if that was an enemy waiting to kill you, I’d be picking up the pieces of your body right now.”

Her eyes blazed. “He’s not an enemy, though, is he?”

His lips parted to tell her—again—how much danger she continued to put herself in, but Briggs interjected, “The only troubles recently have been within the Texas pack. Some of the members in Austin have left the pack’s protection.”

Kyden ate his spoonful of the stew before he asked Briggs, “Think these wolves could be connected?”

Briggs shrugged. “It’s possible. The wolves haven’t joined another pack.”

As Kyden swirled the contents of his bowl and added more beef to his spoon, Briggs said, “Darlin’, will you please eat. Not only can I smell how hungry you are, but you look like you need it.”

Nexi stared at the bowl on the table and her internal struggle showed in her pinched expression. However, Kyden disagreed with Briggs. Nexi might be tiny, only coming up to his chest, but her small frame held curves he did his best not to notice. Besides, she’d gained back most of the weight she’d lost during the first week after her parents’ death.

She had a long stare-down with the bowl until she finally grabbed it, settling it onto her lap. “There, happy?”

“I’ll be happier once you eat it.” Briggs smiled.

She rolled her eyes. “You’re a persistent fluff ball.”

Kyden examined her, noticing the dark circles under her eyes had faded, and the emptiness he’d spotted in her gaze had lifted. He had sympathized with her. That was, until she’d gotten into the habit of running away from the Otherworld and he ended up having to search for her.

The more he chased her, however, the more his curiosity about her formed. The only problem was, by all appearances, she’d rather stuff a dagger into his gut than hold a causal conversation with him.

Perhaps he’d been a little short with her in the beginning, since chasing her hadn’t been what he’d called enjoyable. But he had softened his edge lately, not that she had noticed. Or perhaps it was that she didn’t care.

Maybe he liked that about her, too.

She finally took a bite of her stew. “All right, I admit it’s obvious you didn’t kill my parents, but then why did the Council and Haven think you could help with this?”

Briggs mouth curved. “You are new, aren’t you?”

“Brand spanking new.” She rested her spoon on the bowl and firmed her expression. “Unless you want me to break out the whips and chains, dish.”

“Well now, we wouldn’t want that.” Briggs winked before the playfulness in his features vanished. “I’ll answer you as simply as I can.” He placed both arms against the back of the couch, and rested an ankle over his knee. “From what I’ve seen, you don’t know much about werewolves?”

She looked at him with startling hatred. “Other than knowing your kind killed my parents, no.”

“My kind?” Briggs’s eyes crinkled. “Let’s hope I can change your fine opinion of us.”

Kyden clenched his jaw and instead of chastising her for being disrespectful to a close friend who deserved nothing less than the highest regard, he shut up and ate his meal.

“Keeping it simple,” Briggs continued. “Each state in the U.S. has a werewolf pack. Each of those packs has their own alpha who leads them, but those alphas are ruled by the Patriarch.”

After she swallowed, she asked, “Like the alpha of all alphas?”

Briggs nodded. “That’s a good way to see it.” He gestured to her bowl, and waited until she took another bite before he added, “Valor is our Patriarch. I’m his beta. His second in command, so to speak.”

She regarded him with a slight tilt to her head. “What does a beta do, exactly?”

“He’s a secretary,” Kyden stated.

Briggs tossed a pillow at Kyden’s head, which he caught and tucked under his arm, as Briggs smiled and went on. “It’s more than taking phone calls and scheduling meetings, wanker.”

Turning to Nexi, Briggs softened his voice. “My main duty is to help solve disputes within the packs. If the matter cannot be resolved, the Patriarch gets involved. Valor is always aware when trouble arises within the packs, which means I know, too. Does that answer your question sufficiently?”

She gave him a quick nod. “As the second-in-command, of course, you’d know the happenings in the wolf world. Makes sense.” She swirled her spoon in the stew, and whispered, “If anything about werewolves makes sense.”

Kyden winced at the raw pain in her voice. Every so often, she showed her despair even if she didn’t realize it. Judging by Briggs’s intense stare, he noticed it, too. Kyden wanted to help her understand. “Werewolves are tightly bound to their pack, so when one leaves, it always draws suspicion.”

When she lifted her head, she hid the agony inside of her—something else she’d been good at—and her expression held only curiosity. “A wolf wouldn’t leave his pack just to leave?”

Briggs shook his head. “Not without permission. The Texas alpha contacted Valor two nights ago after their search for the missing wolves turned up nothing.”

Good news, Kyden thought. They needed this lead. He finished the last bite of the stew and placed the bowl on the coffee table in front of him, then he said to Briggs, “Keep us updated if anything develops in Texas.”

Briggs inclined his head. ”Of course.”

Nexi settled her half-eaten dinner next to Kyden’s on the table. To Briggs, she said, “Since you’ve got fur, you’d know better than anyone. Why do you think these wolves killed my family?”

“Don’t know, darlin’,” Briggs responded, his voice gentle. “But trust me on this, there’s a reason for it. Wolves rarely kill maliciously. It’s just not in our nature.”

Her eyebrows drew together and her lips pursed. Kyden had seen the troubled look many times over the past month. She wanted answers to settle the chaos in her life—find closure—and no doubt she sought revenge. But she was going about it in the wrong way, which included putting herself in danger, more than once.

Kyden empathized with Nexi’s need for vengeance and wanted to bring those responsible to justice. However, she needed to allow the Council’s Guard to solve this instead of taking the matter into her own hands. The Guard existed for this very reason, to stop any supernatural that broke the Otherworld’s one law: thou shall not take a mortal life. She didn’t need to do this on her own. She had the Council backing her desire to find those responsible, and Kyden hungered to kill them for their crime.

He cleared his throat, which drew her attention to him, and her look shifted to a death stare. He chuckled. “Let’s go home, Álainn.”

In a split second, she was on her feet and striding past the coffee table. Before she reached the door, he blocked her way. He glanced down into a face that was beautiful regardless of how she was burning with hells-fire at him.

He studied her soft, creamy skin with light freckles dusting her nose. As he’d seen every time she caught him looking at her and before she’d hide her reaction from him, her cheeks flushed and eyes dilated. He didn’t doubt she also sensed the chemistry between them, but she also appeared to be unable to take a single word of advice without wanting to castrate him.

He had tried to ignore the attraction to her for a week, until he finally gave up realizing he’d be a fool not to explore his draw to her. Now he watched a cold distance slide across her face and he missed the heat he’d spotted. “So, there is a bit of guardian in you after all. Going all half-cocked as if you stood a chance of fighting anyone.”

She hesitated, visibly gulped, then her eyes narrowed, shedding any of the softness. “Well, you all keep drilling it into my head that I am a guardian, so what do you expect?” She stepped back and looked at his chin. “Prepping for another lecture?”

“Don’t need to.” Kyden nodded a goodbye to Briggs before he glanced to the troublemaker. “You have it coming, believe me.”

Stacey Kennedy Interview

Greetings and Salutations Guilty Indulgence followers! We are super excited this month to spotlight our monthly book club selection Stacey Kennedy's Werewolves Be Damned. Our week kicks off with a super awesome interview with our delightful new author friend and continues with daily reviews and a recap of our meeting. Please make sure to return daily and make a comment to win a super prize pack including an e-book and swag!  And without further ado....

When and why did you begin writing?

My journey as a writer all began as a way to keep my brain alive since being a stay at home mom can be a little let’s say―numbing. It was an escape from screaming kids, dirty diapers and plain old mom duty. It started as a hobby, but as the stories progressed it became a passion, especially when it comes down to the juicy bits. Every mom needs a good thrill!

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

The day I wrote my first book.

What inspired you to write your first book ?

Nexi, from WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED, inspired me. A little fun fact is that the MAGIC & MAYHEM series was first published as short novels and written in the first person. Entangled Publishing picked up the series, and I rewrote the books into third person (yes, Kyden needed his point-of-view in those books. I don’t know what I was thinking leaving him out!) and I lengthened them. So, it was Nexi’s character that came to me one day, and I just sat down and decided to write her story! The rest is history now...

Tell us about how or what inspired you to turn to paranormal romance.

I write in the paranormal romance genre, because I adore it. It’s my favorite genre to read and I honestly have a total blast writing it. I’m totally one of those authors who write because I have fun doing it. All of my books are written for my own personal enjoyment and it just makes me so happy that other people enjoy them, too.

What book are you reading now?

I just finished Sylvia Day’s ENTWINED WITH YOU, and now I’m onto Katie MacAlister’s, TIME THIEF. Now if only I had more time to actually read!

Are there any authors that have grabbed your interest?

I adore Katie MacAlister’s dragon series and Sylvia Day’s Crossfire novels. I love Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series. Jeaniene Frost is an auto-buy for me and I adore the Night Huntress world, especially Vlad. But Keri Arthur is, by far, my favorite author and who inspires me the most. I love everything about her books; the mystery, the sexual tension and the fantasy elements. Her Riley Jenson Guardian novels were the books that made me fall in love with the genre. Now, I’m totally obsessed with her Dark Angels novels and just can’t get enough!

What are your current projects?

I’ve got a couple things on the schedule right now. I’m currently working on MAGIC & MAYHEM #2, WITCHES BE DAZZLED, which has a release date of November 18, 2013. On August 5th, I have a new steamy BDSM series called, CLUB SIN, with the first book, CLAIMED to release on August 5th with Loveswept. Then the next PACT OF SEDUCTION book will come out on September 24th! So, yes, lots and lots of stories on the go! FUN!

Who designed the covers and do you have any control?

I write for a few publishers, which means I have many cover artists that have designed my pretty covers. Truthfully, some publishers let you have a lot of control, while others don’t. But I’ve never been disappointed—I have been blessed with really beautiful covers!

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Rewrites. I loathe them! I love creating a story and I don’t even mind edits, but those first round rewrites I could seriously live without! Of course, I do them, but just ask my hubby…I get very grumpy during rewrites.

What is your guilty indulgence?

Naughty books and chocolate! Need I say more?!

Fire it up Friday

WHAT A WEEK. Two full days of basketball, one all day soccer tournament and then soccer camp during the day and basketball camp at night. Defiantly tested my organizational skills but I made it and will reward myself for it this weekend. In the very limited amount of reading time that I had this is what I squeezed in...

Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges
Leila’s psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn’t sure what the future holds. If that weren’t enough, her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she’s also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won’t admit that he loves her . . .
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity . . .

I had forgotten how much I love/hate Vlad. He's such an ass but I find it hard to stay mad at him. He's extremely blunt and OLD school. Sometimes I don't think he means to come off so harsh and then there's the times when he is just being an ass. Plus you have to understand that you're human in a vampire world and things aren't the same. But how can you stay mad at a man that buys you an amazing gown with matching shoes, puts a toilet in his on suite bathroom for you and has a rotating closet???? I got a tad aggravated with Leila because she always assumed Vlad was trying to push her away. Believe it or not sometimes he was just trying to do the right thing. Most people that will read this will probably think Vlad as a jerk but I'm one to find the good no matter how small the jester (it's a fault I know) besides he has a mock-you-with -my-superiority laugh and I so want one of those. If you have a spot in your to be read list you will want to fill it in with this and if you're familiar with Cat and Bones then what are you waiting for???

I give this book 4 chocolate dipped strawberries and fire extinguisher,
PEACE

Kenner Claimed Me in the Stark Trilogy

Claim Me (Stark Trilogy #2) by J. Kenner took an unexpected turn. Readers, hold on tight and keep reading!

BLURB
For Damien, our obsession is a game. For me, it is fiercely, blindingly, real.

Damien Stark’s need is palpable—his need for pleasure, his need for control, his need for me. Beautiful and brilliant yet tortured at his core, he is in every way my match.

I have agreed to be his alone, and now I want him to be fully mine. I want us to possess each other beyond the sweetest edge of our ecstasy, into the deepest desires of our souls. To let the fire that burns between us consume us both.

But there are dark places within Damien that not even our wildest passion can touch. I yearn to know his secrets, yearn for him to surrender to me as I have surrendered to him. But our troubled pasts will either bind us close . . . or shatter us completely.

REVIEW
Claim Me picks up where Release Me (book #1) leaves off. I knew their agreement was coming to an end and worried this book might not have enough happiness (aka, uhm, sexiness) but I'm happy to say I was wrong. The agreement comes to an end but the heat does not. Their relationship grows and it feels good, it feels right.

Kenner created imperfect characters that made sense together - they just fit. Put aside their billionaire/ beauty queen statuses and they seem like a normal couple. I know there's a lot of these books out there with the rich businessmen but I admit it's a hot fantasy. I mean, the crazy hot man and a life where money isn't a burden... it's a great recipe for romance that sweeps me away from real life. And experiencing their angst only makes me cheer them on more. Shoot, even rich people have problems. lol!

Anyway, I am swept up in their love affair and am getting ready to start Complete Me (book #3) thanks to NetGalley. Be back soon with that review next! Gotta go and read now...

How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days

Summertime - oh summertime. That time of year when you stay up too late because it's light outside. Or when you find a new book to read. Or both. Today my besties have toddled off to RomFest in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and I will persevere without them. Sigh. All those delightful authors, costumes and adult beverage time....Enjoy and be a little bad for me Tyra and Rebecca! In the meantime, I will try to catch you up on the reading binge that I am recovering from - so many books, and seriously all over the map - paranormal, contemporary, erotic and YA - it's like whiplash in my brain and in my Nook! How about we recover with a snack before we continue. Oh yes, that'll hit the spot!

How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days, Saranna DeWylde,
Kensington Brava, August 2012

"Got demon? Grace does. She's got more demon than she can saddle. In fact, she's got a sinfully sexy Crown Prince of Hell named Caspian. She's also got ten days to get rid of him or Bad Things shall ensue. See, her Russian mobster ex-boyfriend didn't take kindly to her smutty Mephistophelean contract. It's not that she's conspiring with fiends; that was his idea. It's that she's conspiring against him with outrageous devilry that runs the gamut from embarrassing to a dead hooker turned dominatrix demon gunning for his soul. One should never trust demons, let alone shag them. They don't have hearts. Yet Grace is buying hers some slightly tarnished armor and hoping that once he's been shoveled into it, kicking and screaming, he'll find it's just his size. This damsel in distress needs a dark knight for a Happily Ever After."

Saranna DeWylde - how did we not know about you?  You are hilarious, creative and full of sex and snark - my two favorite flavors.  Seriously.  I am not sure how I stumbled upon this read - I think it was probably using www.bookbub.com (if you use an e-reader, this is seriously your new best friend for trying new authors!) and I assure you once read, I jumped online and purchased all the others in this series!  Yeah, I know - a little obsessive.  But a girl has to read, right?

How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days is a highly entertaining romp through the life of Caspian, Crown Prince of Hell.  Summoned by the witch Grace to exact vengeance on her sleazeball ex Michael,  Caspian chooses how he will be paid.  After much negotiating, snark and baiting, the price is sex, er, set.   How can Grace resist the sex on a stick demon?  Surely she is safe from his alluring charms as she's no virgin.  Well, in a perfect world, yes.  But when you have Baba Yaga and Lucifer himself stirring the pot, things can get a little hot in the kitchen.

As fabulous as Grace and Caspian are - and they are HOT together, the secondary characters in this book fight hard to steal the show.  Grandma and Lucifer cracked me up.  The side stories with Michael and his evil mother out to steal the Baba-Yaga title, the mobsters and the neighbors - there wasn't a character that didn't have a moment.  All forms of mayhem and manipulations abound as Grace and Caspian evolve while falling under each other's spell.

How to Lose a Demon in 10 Days is one of those books that you read past your bedtime - it's funny and sexy and too hard to put down.  Snag a copy and plop yourself in the sun - it's gonna get even hotter once you turn the page!

RATING: Five Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries and a big glass of ice water!  A winner of our Ultimate Indulgence Book Award! Enjoy.

Embracing Need by Silvia Violet

Heading off to Romfest in Gatlinburg, TN, tomorrow. I have never been to this area before and I am really looking forward to it. This will be Paloma Beck's first conference as an author and to say she is a bit nervous would be an understatement. Seeing this got me to thinking about just how many authors are also introverts. We as fans always just assume that authors can't wait to be in a room full of adoring fans, but for most this isn't the case. Writing is basically a solitary endeavor and that makes them happy...to be in their little cocoon lost in the worlds that they have created. So remember this the next time that  you meet your favorite author...they are probably just as nervous and scared as you are.

I will be back next week with stories from Romfest!

Embracing Need, Silvia Violet
Wild R Farm #3
Horse shifter, Tristan Hayes, doesn’t believe in relationships. He believes in hot, sweaty one-night stands that leave him aching for days.

Private investigator, Wesley James, is looking for someone to settle down with, but it’s never occurred to him that someone could be a man.

Tristan loves a good game, so he flirts with Wes, never thinking anything serious will come of his attraction. Wes fends him off, but after three months of cat and mouse, both men are worn out from fighting what they feel.

When a young woman from Tristan’s herd goes missing, he asks for Wes’s help. Tristan keeps up his flirtatious façade until Wes calls his bluff, taking him out for dinner and dancing. As they search for the missing shifter, Tristan struggles to believe Wes could care for the man Tristan hides beneath his abrasive exterior.

So let me just start by saying how much I LOVE this cover. Beautiful and totally fulfilled the images of Tristan and Wes in my mind.

Tristan is that person that always has a snappy comeback and it's almost always sexual. He is fun loving and just out to have a good time and nobody gets hurt. Ok, so that's the Tristan that he want's you to believe he is. In reality he has been hurt and has a wall higher and thicker than that Great Wall of China around his heart. At times it was painful watching him come to terms with his feelings and other times it was comical.

Wes doesn't really understand his attraction to Tristan, for one thing he isn't gay...right? But he can't seem to get the sexy shifter off his mind so he is going to take a chance and see where things go. Now if he can just get Tristan to stop running.

You have to be careful with "gay for you" stories because if you don't get the attraction and the emotions right it just doesn't work. Silvia Violet does a great job of making those feelings seem real and genuine.
There is also a great balance of re-visiting past couples and introducing new characters to move the story and time line along.

If you enjoyed the first two stories in this series then I am sure you love Embracing Need which is in my opinion the strongest of the series so far.

RATING: 4 Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries.  This book was given to us by the author. Many thanks.

Hollywood House Call

Calling L.A.'s most eligible M.D.!

Brilliant Hollywood cosmetic surgeon Noah Foster has perfection at his fingertips. Even so, he knows better than any man that losing someone you love comes at a cost. Which is why he can't walk away from Callie Matthews. When an accident shatters her dreams of stardom, he vows to heal her, inside and out.

Yet living in close quarters makes their red-hot attraction impossible to ignore. Being at Callie's bedside is one thing-and being in her bed is something Noah can't resist. He doesn't do commitment...but letting Callie go is impossible....

Hollywood House Call makes me miss L.A. .... almost.  Certainly Hollywood wasn't this exciting when I lived there!  Another fabulous romance from the up and coming Queen of Romance, Jules Bennett, Hollywood House Call steamed up the screen of my Nook!

Who knew the rich and beautiful could be so fractured emotionally?  Ms. Bennett's rich portrayal of a handsome plastic surgeon garners immediate interest.  Noah Foster's grief and guilt make him as damaged as the scars he so brilliantly repairs.  Callie Matthews comes across initially like thousands of pretty Hollywood actress wannabes - all from small nowhere towns looking for fame and fortune.  And yet hers is a story with so much more depth/passion/heartache. The mutual attraction between her and Noah is intense and captivating.  There are moments that completely smolder on the page!

It's been a long time since I got swept up in a story that had me wanting to hurl the book across the room, cry and swoon all in rapid succession.  Her stubborn pride and the baggage he carries over from his fiancee's death are enough to cripple any romance in it's infancy.  Noah and Callie have to fight tooth and nail to heal their wounds, both physical and emotional, if they have any hope at 100% recovery.

Hollywood House Call kept me up way past my bedtime, page after page with her tantalizing romance and heartfelt story.   We should all have a hunky surgeon at our beck and call when we convalesce.

RATING: Four Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries and a cold Mike's to read by the pool with!  This book was given to us by the author for an unbiased review.  Many thanks.

Eyes Wide Open #REVIEW

EYES WIDE OPEN (Blackstone Affair, #3) is a satisfying conclusion to the love story between two perfectly suited people.

The third part in The Blackstone Affair series: A love on the brink of being destroyed. The fight of a lifetime to keep it alive.

Big surprises are on the horizon for Ethan and Brynne as they struggle to adjust to what life has thrown at them. Demons from the past are threatening to destroy the passionate bond they’ve forged despite their vow that nothing will ever keep them apart. A truly devastating loss coupled with the promise of a new hope opens their eyes to what is most important, but is it possible for the lovers to move on from the painful histories that continue to haunt them?

A stalker is still lurking in the shadows, plotting evil amidst the distraction of the 2012 Olympic games in London. Brynne and Ethan are on the cusp of losing everything as the stakes rise. Will they yield to circumstances beyond their control or will they give every ounce of fight they have left to save each other and win the ultimate prize of a life together?

Eyes Wide Open is a passion-wrought story that shows us what pure love can achieve when tested and what the heart can accomplish despite danger and adversity.

REVIEW
I’ve anxiously awaited the third book in this trilogy more than any other contemporary romance trilogies currently wrapping up. I had been so swept up by this combustible couple and the second book ended in such a cliffhanger, I was grateful this book picked up right where that left off.

Naked (#1) is written from Brynne's point of view. All In (#2) is written from Ethan's. Eyes Wide Open includes both points of view. It gave us a full view of their love story.

Despite all the trouble brewing around them, there were light moments that had me laughing aloud. We had the opportunity to meet more of Ethan’s family and see other sides of this intense man. The author wove in both this sweetness along with the danger and intrigue that’s been building since book one which made the culmination of their story bittersweet. I wanted more but I understood that we were at a point of Brynne and Ethan finding their HEA.

Raine Miller has given readers a beautiful love story. During a time when everyone is trying to copy Fifty Shades, this author broke that mold and created an original story.

Finally over Friday!!!

What an insane crazy week. Every week is busy but this week was way outta control. A trip to the zoo, the water park, basketball, TKD, the carnival and a basketball and soccer tournament this weekend. Whew! Next week it gonna be the same. So let's say good bye to school an let the summer fun begin. Let's also say good bye to this......
Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris

Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.

But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough...

Well, it's finally over. I would say I was sad but I'm not. It was time it may have been time a book or two ago. I will however miss the sparkly covers. I must say that the cover fits the book perfectly. Everyone comes together to once again save Sookie's butt. It was a nice way to visit with everyone one last time. I wanted this series to end with Sookie finding peace and not having all the life or death situations and I got my wish but I must say I'm not sure I feel about it now that I got my wish??? I was also surprised how abruptly some things ended. So raise your bottle of blood and say a good bye toast to Bon Temps.

I give this book 3 chocolate dipped strawberries and a vacation for Sookie. Lord knows she needs one after all she's been thru over the course of these books.
PEACE

Secrets from Her Past

Wishful thinking never fixed anything…but it’s better than facing the truth.

Scandalous, Book 2

Cori’s automatic response to trouble has always been to run in the opposite direction. The last time she left her hometown of Pebble Cove, it was to escape the kind of heartbreak no sixteen-year-old should have to endure.

Now she’s back, mostly to help out with a family crisis. But partly to escape a scandal that the unrelenting eye of the media has blown out of all proportion, and wait for the dust to settle.

People have disappointed Dylan nearly his whole life, but he’s a big boy; he’s learned to move on. Except when it comes to the love of his life, the now-famous, one-name supermodel Corinne. Despite what she put him through—abandoning him when he needed her most—to him she’ll always be just Cori.

When a series of events throws them together, they fall back into old patterns—and into each other’s arms. But even as love rekindles, Cori fights the rising urge to run…before the truth of the night she ran away shatters both their hearts beyond repair.

Product Warnings
Contains a flight-risk heroine who must learn to stand her ground, and the man whose love still burns bright enough to guide her home.

Secrets From Her Past, Jules Bennett, Samhain Publishing, 2013

When Jules Bennett is good, she write very well.  But when Jules Bennett is a little bad, she writes even better!  Currently most well known for her Harlequin Desire series, long time fans of Ms. Bennett have appreciated all her stories - they are the kind that make a reader giggle, sigh and wait impatiently for the next installment.   The follow up in her Scandalous series written for Samhain Publishing kicks up the heat and brings a whole lot of spice!

Dylan and Cori have that opposites attract magnetism that grabs you from the start. Far from superficial characters, this pair has true depth and enough baggage and secrets to keep your head spinning.  Truly emotional moments mingle with smoking hot chemistry, making for a complex story that is a rich as chocolate.  Theirs is a story of struggle, truth and consequences and a stormy run on the seas of love.

Arrested by Love #REVIEW

Arrested by Love by Kathryn R. Blake is a naughty spanking romance.

BLURB
Tiffany Morgan has been in love with Kyle Sinclair since she was ten years old, when he'd turned her over his knee for attempting to swim, but nearly drowning, in a raging white water river. Though she'd been furious with him at the time, Tiffany never told her family what Kyle did. Instead, she began trailing after him like an annoying younger sister as she tried to gain his attention.
Now, eleven years later, Kyle, a patrol officer, is finding it much more difficult to maintain his distance from the irresistible and vivacious redhead who continues to invent ingenious ways to attract his interest. Though he dismissed her initial attraction to him as infatuation, as she grew-up, his own feelings of desire and protectiveness deepened. So, despite his constant struggle to resist the spirited little minx's lures, Kyle has to finally admit that he is losing that battle--badly.
However, when Tiffany's attention-seeking pranks escalate to the point of endangering her life, Kyle decides it is past time for him to take a much firmer hand to Miss Morgan's deliciously rounded backside.
Kyle is a firm supporter of law and order, and a man's rightful dominion over the woman he loves. So, to make sure Tiffany understands and accepts his mastery when it comes to her safety and well-being, Kyle lays down the law, and his hand, with loving firmness. Tiffany will learn to obey him, or else. Especially now that he's decided she is going to be his wife.

REVIEW

Spanking Romance seems to be the up-and-coming genre in romantic fiction. I'm enjoying perusing these authors -they even have a facebook page- and learning especially about domestic discipline (DD). Arrested by Love follows the tenets of DD. The hero is the head of the household and as they begin to talk about marriage, it's already clear how their relationship will  be managed. It's an intimacy I haven't seen in other romance sub-genres and it makes my toes curl!

Overall, the book started off strong but then seemed to fall apart. After the first scene, it became stilted. The dialogue didn’t feel authentic and the characters lacked the depth to build empathy. The story was nice and the spanking scenes hot. I was interested in finishing the book to find out what happened to the characters but it just seemed like the story could’ve been tightened up. There were strands that seemed unnecessary and implausible storylines. Still, I’d give the book a try if you enjoy spanking romance.

Walking Disaster #REVIEW

Walking Disaster (Beautiful #2) by Jamie McGuire gives us another perspective in a beautifully disastrous young love story.

Finally, the highly anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster.
Can you love someone too much?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.
In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.
Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

REVIEW
I couldn’t wait to read this book after reading the first in the series. Abby and Travis have this crazy, young love that was so believable. Gosh, I could remember so vividly being that age! Now having Travis’s perspective made things that happened in the first book make more sense… and I like him even more.

In the first book, the author created an intense love story that she enriched by writing this book. Every story has two-sides and it’s never been more clear than in his re-telling. Don’t read one without the other.

Beautiful Disaster #REVIEW

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1) by Jamie McGuire is a coming of age, new adult love story with angst, discovery and a delicious touch of passion.

INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.
Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

REVIEW
I went back and forth in considering if this was a too-crazy, hurtful love or was it perfectly realistic given the age of the characters. Abby is a typical college freshman and Travis is the worst kind of trouble but is there a more perfect combination? In the end, I just enjoyed the story-became swept up in it-and accepted that this is exactly what young love is like. The author created a love story that is as much about the journey as the destination, with solid, complex characters readers will both love and hate.

Beautiful Disaster is brimming with the intense emotions and angst of young love. If you enjoy Young Adult, try this New Adult novel. Enjoy!

Finally Finished Friday!

Finally the last week of school for my kids. No more homework and lunch packing for a bit. I try not to complain about school because I don't want to set a bad example. Speaking of setting a bad example... I started this series and I''m bound and determined to see it thru.

Hidden by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

At last, Zoey has what she wanted: the truth is out. Neferet's evil has been exposed, and the High Council is no longer on her side -- but she's far from done wreaking havoc in the vampyre world. First, a mysterious fire ravages the stables. Then, Neferet makes a devastating move that will test them all.
With the seeds of distrust sown and Darkness breeding chaos at the House of Night, everyone must band together -- but that's proving to be more difficult than ever before. The twins are barely speaking and the House of Night's former enemy, Kalona, has now become their warrior, pushing their trust to the limit. To top it off, Zoey is pretty darn sure she might be losing her mind. She saw something when she looked at Aurox through the Seer Stone that she can hardly explain to herself, let alone her friends. Is it possible that Heath has come back in a different form? Is that why Zoey's so intrigued by Aurox, when it's so obvious that he's dangerous? And who would believe her if she told them? Zoey knows that following her instinct about Aurox might be just what they need to defeat evil . . . but if she's wrong, it could cause the destruction of those closest to her.
With the tension at a breaking point and friendships on the line, can the nerd herd come together to stop the spread of Darkness before it's too late?

I'm all caught up on this series and I think we're on what book 10ish?? Not sure how much more there is to tell. But I did find some good stuff to share. I enjoy that all characters and was glad to meet Shaylin and her True Sight. As always I think Aphrodite is the bomb! I love Damien and how he called his sleep time his beauty rejuvenation period. I'm totally on board with that. And I have to say that I'm with Aphrodite what does" sure as sugar mean" Stevie Rae? Then there's Shaylin... I love her take on Erik...he's like beautiful piece of pottery you'd like to toss a salad in but you flip it over and the bowl says WARNING  DO NOT USE TO SERVE FOOD. Not to mention he confused the words misogynist and gynecologist LOL. It could happen to anyone. I also miss the twins being together. It's a good message that people drift apart and sometimes that a good thing. Also a shout out to Kramisha and her super neon fashions and her purple folder of doom.

I give this book 3 chocolate dipped strawberries and some brown pop.
Merry meet, merry part, merry meet again.

Desire's Edge #REVIEW: Razor Sharp Love

Desire's Edge (Razor, #1) by Margie Church & K.B. Cutter is the first book in a series about a unique love story that I suspect is only going to grow more complex.

BLURB
An erotic, insightful novel about one of today's most controversial topics: polyamory.

Amy has a core need to occasionally be sexually dominant with her husband, and he's not getting the message. Her solution is very unconventional. She want hers best friend, Raine, a lifestyle Domme, to mentor him.

Initially, Bryce thinks Amy's crazy.

Raine brings a new level of excitement and kink to the marriage. What they thought would be a temporary situation evolves into much more, especially when Amy and Bryce develop deeper feelings for Raine. Their newfound intimacy makes all three examine their views about love and sex outside marital boundaries, their sexual identities, and the definition of family.

Embracing an inevitable destiny, the triad lives on the razor's edge of a happiness many will never know. Razor: Desire's Edge is a must-read for all those who saw, or heard about Showtime's controversial series, "Polyamory: Married and Dating."

This groundbreaking, erotic trilogy continues in Razor: Love's Storm and Razor: Love's Reflection.

REVIEW
Desire’s Edge is an intense building of emotion between three people. The romance – the love – is beautiful though the average person may need to suspend belief and accept a different kind of relationship. The development is realistic and the feelings that developed within the triad feels authentic. The tightly woven plot makes the book a quick read. Not knowing what will ultimately happen with the unique relationship keeps readers on the edge. The addition of each of the character’s separate needs - and how they will meet those needs - makes me wonder what’s to come in future books in the series.

Strange Academy....A Must Read with a New Awesome Cover!

The past October I reviewed Strange Academy by Teresa Wilde.  I have been thrilled that as a perk of writing for the blog I have been able to meet new authors and in some cases develop a great relationship with them.  We, of course, don't allow these relationships to influence our reviews and try to give our readers the most honest review possible.  The flip to that happens when a book really impresses us - which given how much we read can be a challenge.  In those rare cases we through all caution to the wind and shout "you must read this book" at the top of our lungs.  When I first reviewed this book I was blown away and then further blown away to find out that it sales didn't reflect just how fabulous it is.  I suggested that it might be the cover and now I'm thrilled to bring you a new cover reveal!  This new cover does a great job at capturing the spunky humor of the book and the sensuality of Sadie Strange.  I sincerely hope that by repeating this review and showing you the new cover that you will be inspired to Read This Story!  You will not regret it.  I have reread it numerous times over choosing something off of my "I'm dying to read the next in this series - Yeah it's finally released" list.

So on to my review of Strange Academy (http://amzn.to/Q5SNKg)  By Teresa Wilde

Set in a beautiful historical school that predates Columbus’ arrival in the new world and yet it exists in Canada – Strange Academy is a school for the talented and gifted.  A school where Pippa Strange, Sadie’s Aunt and decedent of the school’s founder, has taught for years and recently died mysteriously in the library.  Sadie has always struggled with who she is.  Her aunt thought she was a witch and her older sister thinks she is a psychic – she thinks they are both crazy.  And yet something deep down causes her eye to twitch when ever she has to confront her feelings.  Out of options and determined to try to discover the truth about her Aunt’s death, Sadie accepts her Aunt’s former teaching position and becomes the newest resident of Strange Hall – one of the dorms on campus.

As child, when her sister was sent to Strange Academy and she wasn’t, she developed a strong opinion that the school was full of snobs who believed they were better then everyone else and were really just strange people who couldn’t fit in.   Since then she has spent her whole life doing whatever she could to be normal and blend.  So it is a shock to her when she overhears the Principal arguing with a fellow faculty member that she should not be allowed to teach at the school.  As offending as this is, upon meeting the fellow teacher, handsome Lorde Gray, she is more offended at her body’s immediate attraction to him and his attraction to her.

Lorde Gray is the heir to the Gray house and it is his burden to insure that the strong magical powers of the house continue by marrying another Meta (person with magical or talented powers) and producing an heir. It is also his duty to insure that Non’s (people without powers) never discover that Meta’s exist and that his nephew (a student at Strange Academy) is safe and happy.  So Sadie’s presence at Strange Academy is against everything he believes in.  1) She is a risk to all Meta’s that she will discover their secret and expose them 2) She is putting his nephew at risk and exposing him to Non’s which are off limits and mostly importantly 3) Sadie turns is blood on fire and she is off limits to him also!

But Sadie won’t be dismissed so easily – as Gray tries everything he can to get her fired she refuses to be intimidated.  And so the verbal foreplay begins.  As they fight back and forth the sexual tension grows. They both begin to look forward to the banter until the temptation is too much to resist and the banter becomes something else.  But as Strange Academy’s secrets are slowly revealed along with the secrets to Sadie’s legacy as the founder’s heir can they both overcome all the obstacles that stand in their way?  Is the fire between them strong enough to overcome centuries of tradition and expectations?

Although this book has a very complete tidy ending I hope, with every finger and toe crossed, that Ms. Wilde chooses to continue with the other characters and make this a series.  This is a very well thought out vibrant world giving Harry Potter and Mytho’s Academy fans something even better.  I loved that it had the fun vibrancy of the school setting with all the unusual talented students and their wacky mythical pets and yet was told with the teachers as the main characters instead of the students.  This let the story have adult situations and mature feelings but with the whimsical youthful fun backdrop.  The interaction with the students gave the characters battles to overcome and comic relief.  Both characters were strong and funny.  For me the sign of a good book is if I can’t put it down.  The sign of a great book is if I am so sad to see it end that I immediately start rereading it.  I’ve lost count how many times I have reread it.  I simply can’t rave enough about it!

RATING:  Five Chocolate Dipped Strawberries with whipped cream, cherries, and every topping you can think of on top!!!!
