Series #Review @NetGalley: CARTEL @LiliStGermain1

Book One: CARTEL
How much is a life worth?
I grew up in Columbia, the daughter of a wealthy drug lord. I lived a life of extravagance, until one day a drug run went horribly wrong and everything came crashing down around me.
I was given away. A payment for a debt. The Gypsy Brothers motorcycle club became my owners, and I did everything I could to survive.
But falling in love with the man who owned me wasn't part of the plan ...

They say love conquers all. It's a lie.
Five days a week, I dressed in smart business clothes. I painted my face, and went to work as an accountant. But nothing about my life was normal.
For eight years I had been the property of the Gypsy Brothers Motorcycle Club. I laundered their money so well they'd never let me leave. My only glimmer of light was the man I loved. The man who had saved me.
Dornan. His love had been the only thing that kept the demons at bay. But he'd become so immersed in the cartel's brutal business that I hardly knew him anymore. Dornan had been my salvation, but he was also my undoing.
Would he pull me down into the darkness until he destroyed me? Could I save him? Did I even want to?

Book Three: EMPIRE
People aren't born monsters.
They're made that way.
They're created, fuelled by one singular moment in time when their universe shatters.
I'd been with Dornan Ross for the better part of a decade. Slept in his bed, sewn up his wounds, tasted his blood, seen inside his soul.
But even I wasn't prepared for what he did.
I should have known it would always come down to this, from the very moment I laid eyes on him in that motel.
I should have known his salvation was too good to be true.
Because it's all gone now, the impossible love I had for him bleeding away in the darkness that came afterward.
Now there's only hate.
Now I just want to escape.
Even if it means I have to kill him to be free.

Before the Gypsy Brothers series there was the Cartel - from USA Today bestselling author Lili St Germain.

Intense, provocative, shocking and completely addictive, the Gypsy Brothers and the cartel they serve are frighteningly seductive. When I began reading book one, I was terribly sad for this young girl but little did I know just how connected I would feel to her by the end of book three. Without a promise of a happy ending, the dark and bloody series -dare I say romance - is impossible to break away from. I simply couldn't read fast enough. And I hope by the epilogue that there will be more to come in this world.

#REVIEW @NetGalley: Becoming A Legend @BooksBy_Sarah @JamieNOtis

From the author of Saving a Legend (“A deep and moving story about family, acceptance, and love.”—Katy Evans) comes another smoldering MMA romance featuring the Kavanagh brothers, the chiseled alpha males whose real legacy is love.

Kane Kavanagh has always had one goal: being the best mixed martial arts fighter alive. With the MMA National Championships in Las Vegas fast approaching, the man they call “Killer” has no intention of letting anyone or anything get in his way. Somehow, though, a feisty opponent has slipped beneath his guard—and stolen his heart. Fiery and passionate, Nora Hannigan is harder to pin down than any rival Kane has faced in the ring. And she isn't afraid to tell Kane that she wants nothing to do with him.

With her best friend about to marry into the Kavanagh family, Nora has been resisting Kane's shameless attempts at flirting for months. But after their undeniable chemistry finally takes over, leading to the hottest night of Nora's life, she's running scared. There's a lot about her life Kane doesn't know, and she won't be responsible for ending his career. Now Kane's out to prove that he's ready for a commitment by winning her heart—and he's never lost a fight.
PRAISE for the Kavanagh Legends series
“I loved this book. The romance gave me butterflies, the intimacy between the characters made me blush, and the drama made me hungry for more.”—Jamie Otis, reality television star, FYI's Married at First Sight and ABC's The Bachelor, on Breaking a Legend
The Kavanagh brothers are so very charming. Finally in book three and we get Kane's story. He was in the background for the first two books and my curiosity continued growing so I was thrilled to hear his story. And I love it more than I expected. Nora made the perfect partner for him. Their genuine interactions were both sweet and sexy. This book was good in both ebook in audiobook!

Audiobook #REVIEW Halfway Dead @TerryMaggert @ErinSpencerLA #UltimateIndulgence

Author: Terry Maggert

Narrator: Erin Spencer

Length: 7h 12m

Genre: Paranormal

Release date: Aug. 07, 2015

Carlie McEwan loves many things. She loves being a witch. She loves her town of Halfway, NY - a tourist destination nestled on the shores of an Adirondack lake. Carlie loves her enormous familiar, Gus, who is 25 pounds of judgmental Maine Coon cat, and she positively worships her grandmother, a witch of incredible power and wisdom. Carlie spends her days cooking at the finest - and only - real diner in town, and her life is a balance between magic and the mundane, just as she likes it.

When a blond stranger sits at the diner counter and calls her by name, that balance is gone. Major Pickford asks Carlie to lead him into the deepest shadows of the forest to find a mythical circle of chestnut trees, thought lost to forever to mankind. There are ghosts in the forest, and one of them cries out to Carlie across the years. Come find me.

Danger, like the shadowed pools of the forest, can run deep. The danger is real, but Carlie's magic is born of a pure spirit. With the help of Gus, and Gran, and a rugged cop who really does want to save the world, she'll fight to bring a ghost home, and deliver justice to a murderer who hides in the cool, mysterious green of a forest gone mad with magic.

There are a few things you need to know about me, the reviewer.  1) I love audiobooks.  2) I love paranormal and urban fantasy - doesn't necessarily have to have romance in the storyline, although like chocolate, sex usually makes everything better.  3) I have a low tolerance for crappy writing when it's read aloud and even a great narrator can't salvage a less than stellar storyline or character development.  That being said, allow me to let you know - this book rocks!

Maggert has crafted a fantastic heroine in Carlie McEwan.  In fact, he's created a whole world of characters that readers will clamor to know more about.  The pace is perfect, not too hurried in world building, but with enough action peppered in to keep things interesting and a bit off kilter.  The use of magic is believable and enjoyable - allowing the reader to bond with Carlie, as she binds the world around her in search of the missing bones of Erasmus and hunts the creepy danger that has existed in the remote Adirondack woods for decades.  There's just enough of a hint of some romance to make those strictly PNR folks stay tuned as well.  Certainly, they will want to return to Halfway, NY, to see what else lies in store for our intrepid culinary witch.

Erin Spencer brings life to the clever characters of this book - with a great range of inflections and pitch perfect pace, she nails the reading on this audio gem.  She has gone into the "must find more of her works" audio basket.

RATING:  FIVE Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries and a winner of our Ultimate Indulgence Award. This audiobook was provided AudioBookworm for an unbiased review. Many thanks.
