Tied Up In Knots by Mary Calmes @dreamspinners #REVIEW #ULTIMATEINDULGENCE

Tied Up In Knots, Mary Calmes, Dreamspinner Press
Marshals #3
Miro Jones is living the life: he’s got his exciting, fulfilling job as a US deputy marshal, his gorgeous Greystone in suburban Chicago, his beloved adopted family, and most importantly, the man who captured his heart, Ian Doyle. Problem is, Ian isn’t just his partner at work—Ian’s a soldier through and through. That commitment takes him away from Miro, unexpectedly and often, and it’s casting a shadow over what could be everything Miro could ever dream of.

Work isn’t the same without Ian. Home isn’t the same, either, and Miro’s having to face his fears alone… how to keep it together at the office, how to survive looming threats from the past, and worst of all, how to keep living without Ian’s rock-solid presence at his side. His life is tied up in knots, but what if unknotting them requires something more permanent? What would that mean for him and Ian? Miro’s stuck between two bad choices, and sometimes the only way to get out of the knot is to hold tight to your lifeline and pull.

Mary Calmes is back with the third installment for the Marshals series. and you better strap yourself in because it's a roller coaster read! Seriously the gamut of emotions that I experience during this book ran from elation to devastation. The action is non-stop from the first page to the last.

We have the best cameo appearances and the introduction of some new characters and all the old favorites we love.  Calmes builds her worlds with characters that are real and memorable, that when you walk away from a book they feel like family. There is action, and a bad guy or two and some really intense, made me bawl me eyes out, scenes. There are funny and goofy interactions with the Marshals and Miro's friends and let's throw in a holiday just for shits and giggles.

But let's face it...I read these books for Miro and Ian . The development of their relationship over the course of this series, is what keeps me coming back. Each of them has grown individually but what happens between them is the cornerstone of these stories. I love to read the journey that these two are on and if Mary keeps writing them I will keep reading them!

If you want a thrilling read with well thought out characters and an intriguing plot line then Tied Up In Knots and the Marshals series is one for you bookshelf.

Smoke & Mirrors by @CharlieCochet @dreamspinners #REVIEW #ULTIMTAEINDULGENCE

Smoke & Mirrors, Charlie Cochet, Dreamspinner Press
Life for Dexter J. Daley has never been easy, but he’s always found a way to pick himself back up with a smile on his face. Taken from his home, and the arms of his boyfriend and THIRDS partner, Sloane Brodie, Dex finds himself in a situation as mysterious and lethal as the Therian interrogating him. Dex learns what he’s secretly believed all along: his parents’ death wasn’t an accident.

Discovering the whole truth about John and Gina Daley’s homicide sets off a series of events that will change Dex and Sloane’s lives forever. As buried secrets rise to the surface and new truths are revealed, Dex and Sloane’s love for each other is put to the test, with more than their relationship on the line. If traversing the waters of murder and secret government agencies wasn’t enough, something inexplicable has been happening to Dex—and nothing will ever be the same.

The seventh book in the THIRDS series is a game changer. Authors of long running series who are looking to transition the story line need to take a page from Ms. Cochet's book. It sets up the next book seamlessly while staying true to the characters and the world that she has created.

If you are like me and have been screaming since the end of Catch a Tiger by the Tail because of the stop your heart cliffhanger you will be rocking some red eyes for the next 24-48 hours. You will not want to put this book down and will be bereft once you do reach the end. I don't know how long the wait is for the next book, but if it's more than a week, it's too long.

This book picks up right where CATBTT leaves off and our favorite gummy bear eating agent is in deep trouble, Sloane is about to go feral, and Sparks is still rocking the catwoman suit. While the book centers around the 25 year old  mystery of what happened to Dex's parents, you still have all the relationship drama and team interaction that keeps me coming back to these books again and again. There is one WTF moment that happens, that I SO did not see coming and it was completely awesome!

Lots of changes in store for Destructive Delta and especially it's leaders Sloane and Dex. I'm not sure exactly where Charlie is taking us, but if she is driving the BearCat, you can bet I will be along for the ride.

If you have not read this series...STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING....and get them now!

Absinthe of Malice by @Rhys_Ford @dreamspinners #REVIEW #ULTIMATEINDULGENCE

Absinthe of Malice, Rhys Ford, Dreamspinner Press
Sinners # 5
We’re getting the band back together.

Those five words send a chill down Miki St. John’s spine, especially when they’re spoken with a nearly religious fervor by his brother-in-all-but-blood, Damien Mitchell. However, those words were nothing compared to what Damien says next.

And we’re going on tour.

When Crossroads Gin hits the road, Damien hopes it will draw them closer together. There’s something magical about being on tour, especially when traveling in a van with no roadies, managers, or lovers to act as a buffer. The band is already close, but Damien knows they can be more—brothers of sorts, bound not only by familial ties but by their intense love for music.

As they travel from gig to gig, the band is haunted by past mistakes and personal demons, but they forge on. For Miki, Damie, Forest, and Rafe, the stage is where they all truly come alive, and the music they play is as important to them as the air they breathe.

But those demons and troubles won’t leave them alone, and with every mile under their belts, the band faces its greatest challenge—overcoming their deepest flaws and not killing one another along the way.

Sinner's Gin has become Crossroads Gin and to help the band gel they are going out on the road. But things aren't all groupies and sunshine....this band comes with a lot of baggage, and it's not the kind that can be carried by roadies.

Their first stop is Boston and things don't go well...from there it's a rollercoaster ride of hospital stays, second guesses, crisis of faith and cheap motels. For the boys of Crossroads it's all about the music, they're just not sure if even that is enough to get them through the hard times. Thankfully they have the Morgan/Murphy clan to call in as back-up.

With bits of mystery, action, suspense and Fords trademark dose of pop culture and poetic imagery, this book will pull you in quickly and not let go. There are great scenes with just the band and intimate one on one's with each guys significant other. But I think my favorite from this one is between the cantankerous lead singer and the flame haired Matriarch, POW right in the feels!

This book is the set up for the last in the series and with the way things went I think they and we are in for a bumpy ride. The emotions run strong through this book and the cliffhanger is a doozy, that has me both excited and anxious.
